Great Escape Mindo: El Septimo Paraiso

The Mindo cloudforest in Ecuador is a real nature lover’s paradise. Lush cloudforests, with rivers and waterfalls running through, are home to endless numbers of colourful hummingbirds, orchids and butterflies. This Ecuador round trip is perfect for the dedicated bird watcher, and incorporates bird watching, nature hikes and soft adventure activities. A fair level of physical fitness is required.

Day 1 Yanacocha – Pahuma
Your English speaking birdwatching guide will pick you up in Quito. Begin your tour to the cloud forest with a visit to the Yanacocha Reserve, where amongst other things it is possible to see the Blackbreasted Puffleg and Oscillated Tapaculo.
Box lunch included. In the afternoon visit the lovely Pahuma Reserve where it is possible to see the White Tailed Hillstar, Beautiful Jay and the Cock of the Rock nesting. Dinner and overnight in El Septimo Paraiso.

Day 2 Refugio Paz de las Aves – Canopy Zipline – Mindo
An early morning start to visit the Refugio Paz de la Aves where it is possible to see four species of Ant Pitta, Cock of the Rock, Toucanets, Toucan Barbets, Mountain Tanagers, Guans. Breakfast at Refugio Paz. Return to Septimo Paraiso for lunch. In the afternoon enjoy a wonderful zip-line ride over the cloud forest canopy – great fun for all ages. Dinner and overnight in El Septimo Paraiso.

Day 3 Mindo – Septimo Parasio Hike/Butterfly House – Bellavista
After breakfast enjoy a morning hike in the Septimo Paraiso Cloud Forest Reserve where there are over 300 species birds recorded, or for those who prefer relax poolside at the lodge, before visiting the butterfly house in Mindo. Return to Septimo Paraiso for lunch. In the afternoon visit the Bellaviste Reserva to see the wonderful hummingbirds. Dinner and overnight in El Septimo Paraiso.

Day 4 Milpe Reserve – Mitad del Mundo – Quito
After an early breakfast enjoy a morning of bird watching at the Milpe Reserve where amongst other things it is possible to see Moss backed Tanager and Club Winged Manaquin. Lunch included in a restaurant near the Equator line. After lunch visit the Mitad del Mundo where the Equator line crosses Ecuador, before returning to Quito.

Included: Private transportation with English speaking bird watching guide, accommodation in Hacienda Pinsaqui, meals as specified (B - breakfast, L - lunch, D - dinner), activities specified and entrance fees to visitor sites specified.
